He Promised Me Work In Lagos, Na Trap I Enter (EPISODE 37)

EPISODE 37 – Strength in the Shadows

Lagos never sleeps, and neither do its tests. I have learned to move carefully, to watch and listen, to measure every step. But even as I build a life for myself and Ada, I know the shadows of my past are never far.

The man who trapped me before is still somewhere out there. I do not know when or if he will return, but I refuse to live in constant fear. Instead, I prepare. I change routines, I vary my routes, and I keep records of every strange call or message. Lagos is rough, yes, but I am learning to be rougher.

Helping Ada gives me purpose. Her eyes, her trust, remind me why I cannot allow the past to control me. I teach her small survival skills, but I also teach her confidence. “You belong to no one, and no one should own your life,” I tell her.

Some nights, I lie awake and think about my mother, about the grandmother I never knew, about the life I could have had. But the past no longer chains me. I carry lessons, not regrets. I carry awareness, not fear.

The city is still loud, unpredictable, dangerous. But I feel a new kind of power — quiet, determined, careful, and aware. I have no illusions about freedom. I know it comes with responsibility, vigilance, and sometimes, loneliness.

And yet… a small thrill lives inside me. Lagos may be a machine, but I have learned to navigate it. And even if my past catches up, I now have the strength to face it.
