He Promised Me Work In Lagos, Na Trap I Enter (Episode 1)

EPISODE 1 – The Day Death Announced My Name

EPISODE 1 – The Day Death Announced My Name

I don’t even know where to start, but I guess the only place to begin is from the very beginning — the day my life became heavy.

I was born in Umunze, Anambra State. That day, my mother was in labor, and the pain was unbearable. Nurses were running, doctors were shouting instructions, and the hospital was full of tension.

As I finally entered this world, my maternal grandmother died in the same hospital. Just like that. One life begins, another ends.

I couldn’t see her, but the whispers started immediately. People started saying my family was cursed. “See this girl, she heavy o,” some whispered. “She go carry trouble follow her life.” My father, the man who should have held me in his arms, looked worried and distant. He tried to smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

Even the neighbors and family friends didn’t come close. Some looked at me with fear; others shook their heads silently. Everyone was whispering, judging, and speculating.

From that very day, life felt different for me. People feared what they didn’t understand. The joy of a new life was shadowed by sorrow and suspicion. As I grew older, I would begin to understand that life had started me off on a hard path — and there was no turning back.

Episode 2 Coming Soon…..:
But this was only the beginning. Years later, the same illness that claimed my grandmother would come back to take my mother… on my birthday.
