He Promised Me Work In Lagos, Na Trap I Enter (EPISODE 27)

EPISODE 27 – He No Want Lose Control

Lagos was restless that evening, but I had a plan. My small catering business had grown enough to attract a customer willing to give me a small contract. I felt pride bubbling inside me — a taste of independence I hadn’t felt in months.

But freedom in Lagos is never simple.

That night, as I returned from delivering food, I noticed a black car parked unusually close to my usual route. My stomach sank. I slowed down, pretending to check my phone, heart pounding.

Before I could turn, I felt his hand on my shoulder. Calm, smooth, but heavy — the kind of presence that presses down on your chest.

“Where you dey go so late? You dey hide something from me?” he asked, his voice soft but sharp, a velvet blade.

I tried to stay calm, hiding my terror behind a forced smile. “Na just small errand, I go home now,” I lied.

But he didn’t let go. He followed me back to the room, eyes never leaving mine. His threats were no longer subtle.

“You no fit leave me. You dey mine. Nobody go care for you like I dey care. If you try run, wahala go follow you for Lagos. You sabi am.”

The words hit me like stones. I had tried to sneak independence, even a little, but he saw everything. My small victories felt fragile under his shadow.

That night, as I lay in my bed, the fear settled back like a heavy blanket. But anger stirred underneath it. I realized that fear alone would not protect me. I needed strategy, patience, and more preparation. I couldn’t fight him blindly.

“You no go control me forever,” I whispered to myself, the words barely audible, but my heart believed them.
